The restoration of the Lomdei Mishnayot Synagogue in 2001 represents the rescue of the only remaining synagogue in the city of Oswiecim, Poland. The AJCF is a place for reflection and worship offering visitors to the nearby Birkenau and Auschwitz concentration camps a place of respite. The center houses a new museum dedicated to the history of the vibrant life and culture of Eastern European Jewry before 1939. The Masterplan for the expansion of the AJCF developed the program and design concepts for a new addition expanding the historic synagogue and adjacent building. This proposed cultural and education center included museum and exhibition spaces, classroom facilities, meeting rooms, administration offices, and Kosher cafeteria to accommodate local and international pilgrims visiting from the nearby concentration camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau.
