Designed by Edward Durell Stone in 1964, this Museum is home to collections of 17th to 20th Century Puerto Rican painting, sculpture and ethnography. MAPR is also known for its’ collection of Pre-Raphaelite art which include masterworks by Leighton and Burne-Jones. KAPC‘s masterplan focused on addressing the museo’s growing audience and regional educational programs. A major restoration & expansion plan will provide needed repairs to precast concrete structure, aging building systems as well as the creation of a new wing to house an auditorium, cafeteria, conservation studios and administration offices.
The Campeche Education Center, will be a new facility jointly operated by the Museo de Arte de Ponce and Sacred Heart University, a local college adjacent to the Museum property. New studio facilities, classrooms, faculty offices and a special exhibitions gallery open to the public will showcase the work of students and affiliated artists.
